When to visit Denmark

You can visit Denmark yearly because the country has something to offer every month of the year.

You can visit Denmark in any four seasons, but many tourists visit the country in the spring and the summer.

April and September can be good alternatives if you want to visit Denmark and avoid the high travel season, as the weather can be mild enough for many activities.

The best times to visit Denmark vary depending on the type of experience you're looking for, as the country has distinct seasonal highlights.

Spring (April to May)

Highlights: Mild temperatures (around 10-15°C or 50-59°F) and blooming flowers make spring a charming time to visit. Gardens like Tivoli in Copenhagen are especially beautiful, and crowds are smaller than peak summer months. May is often sunnier, and outdoor cafes open up for the season.

From May, the days are getting longer, and the temperatures rise. As it gets warmer, there are many things to do, like visiting museums and heritage attractions.

Summer (June to August)

Highlights: The warmest time of year, with temperatures ranging from 15-25°C (59-77°F). June and July bring the longest days with up to 17 hours of daylight, making it perfect for sightseeing and enjoying outdoor events like the Roskilde Festival and Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

Coastal areas and islands are famous for swimming, biking, and beach days.

Early Fall (September to October)

Highlights: Early fall offers pleasant weather (10-18°C or 50-64°F) and vibrant autumn foliage, especially in parks and forests.

September can still be quite warm, while October brings the cosy “hygge” vibe, ideal for indoor attractions like museums and castles. Food festivals celebrate the harvest season in towns across Denmark.

Winter (November to February)

Highlights: Denmark shines in winter for those who love cosy indoor activities and festive Christmas markets. December is magical in cities like Copenhagen and Aarhus, with Christmas lights, markets, and holiday events.

Though temperatures can be chilly (0-5°C or 32-41°F), this season is ideal for experiencing Danish “hygge” – warm drinks, candlelit cafes, and relaxed evenings.
